Tomato Chutney

Tomato chutney is usually an accompaniment with the Toor Dal (Yellow pigeon pea split) and rice. In our house, it is a Sunday special light food. Since it is a very easy meal to make, it is a perfect lunch to make on a lazy Sunday. You can adjust the spices according to your taste.

  • Turn the stove on and in a pan add oil.
  • When the oil is hot add the mustard seeds.
  • After the seeds splutter add the chopped onions, serrano pepper and ginger to the pan.
  • When the onions are translucent add the tomatoes with the Tomato sauce, curry leaves and the spices.
  • Turn the stove down to medium high, cover and let it cook for about five ten minutes, till everything is mixed and the tomatoes are cooked.
  • Once it is simmered well, adjust the spices as per your taste and serve it with boiled rice.
