Calzone

Calzone or a pocket pizza is one of our family favorites. You practically can make the stuffing with anything you like, it could be mushroom, spinach, broccoli, onion, turkey, ground chicken the options are endless. If you are using meat stuffing just remember when you are sauteing, it would take a longer time to cook. I have used pre-made pizza dough for this but you can make your own dough with flour and yeast. For a healthier version you might consider baking it, but you will have to compromise on taste. I believe in healthy cuisine but I don’t like to compromise too much on the taste so I am using the pan method.

  • Chop the vegetables.
  • Place a wok on medium high heat and add about two tbsp of olive oil.
  • When the oil is hot add chopped garlic.
  • Once the garlic is ready add the chopped onions.
  • After a couple of minutes when the onions are translucent add the capsicums.
  • Add the mushrooms and any other vegetables you want after a couple of minutes.
  • Last vegetable to be added would be spinach as it cooks faster.
  • Add a tablespoon of marinara sauce to this with salt.
  • Saute all the vegetables for about five minutes and turn the heat off.
  • Take a small ball of pizza dough and roll it in a circle.
  • Spread a teaspoon of marinara sauce on it.Add the stuffing to this rolled dough.
  • Add the stuffing to one half side of this rolled dough.
  • Spread some cheese of your choice on this.
  • Fold it and press the sides.Take a medium size of frying pan with a tablespoon of olive oil and turn the heat on low.
  • Take a medium size of frying pan with a tablespoon of olive oil and turn the heat on low.Place this folded calzone in the pan. Cover it and let it cook on one side.

  • After about five minutes flip it and let it cook on the other side. Once both sides are cooked serve it hot with marinara sauce.
